The Dutch name for the very succesful “Gogglebox” format in the UK Channel 4 started broadcasting “Gogglebox” in 2013. It took a second season for the viewers to understand this unique format, but then it went ballistic. Watching ordinary people that are watching TV programs and commenting on what they see is fun. Commissioned in over 25 countries, Gogglebox is a major hit. In August 2014 the format was commissioned to IDTV (a full daughter of ALL3Media, the format owner) With a budget of less than 50% compared to the budget used in the UK, recording and editing was a challenge.
Realitypartners was chosen by IDTV as the technical facilities partner for their expertise in over 10 years of technical realisation on Reality Television formats. Where in the UK (and some other countries) there are 6 people involved in the recordings, Realitypartners came with a technical solution that minimized that to 3 people without loss of content value. Smart solutions, like a logging system (Syncode Avid Marker Tool) that writes markers in Avid directly and a recording method on SSD’s with 100% synchronous start and stop makes editing a far more easy job (SDR-MX50). As Avid is the standard for Television editing the files needed to be 100% Avid compatible without delays of transcoding. With 2 successful seasons in the Netherlands a third season is on it’s way.
